The Challenge: Wellness with Purpose

“How do we motivate employees across multiple locations to prioritize their health while  contributing to the society?”

This was the challenge facing a global technology multinational in early 2024. With teams spread across different departments and locations, the company struggled with:

  • Lack of prioritization of health outcomes within employees
  • Low engagement rates for health initiatives
  • Limited measurable impact from standalone health programs
  • Need for a unifying cause that resonated across diverse teams

The Breakthrough: Steps that Feed

The answer came in an innovative partnership with Alyve Health to create a 45-day walkathon campaign called “Miles to Meals” to transform ordinary daily steps into extraordinary impact.

The walkathon’s brilliance lay in its simplicity: employees started walking and tracking their steps regularly with the Alyve Health app, and for every 3,333 steps logged, one meal would be donated to the NGO for underprivileged children.

This created what we call the “double-impact motivation loop” – walking wasn’t just about personal health anymore; it was about feeding a child. Two birds with one stone: improve employee well-being while making a tangible difference in the society.

The Execution: Bringing Miles to Meals to Life

The Alyve Squad Approach

Behind this successful initiative stood the Alyve Health Squad—a multidisciplinary team of experts who orchestrated every aspect of this program. Account Management specialists developed customized implementation strategies based on the company’s specific culture and goals, while Marketing & Communications experts created thematic weekly communications to maintain engagement and interaction. Technical Implementation engineers configured the platform with real-time tracking dashboards, and Health & Wellness Specialists designed sessions tailored to different fitness levels. Design & UX professionals completed the team by creating engaging visuals that connected individual efforts to collective impact.

Inclusive Challenge Design

We understand that employees have varying fitness levels and interests. Some employees may also have medical issues that prevent them from participating. Multiple subsets of challenge ensured nobody was left behind:

The Data Story: Measuring Transformation

Average daily steps increased by 25-30% over the program duration

The data revealed compelling evidence of behavior change:

  • Initial adoption: 900+ employees onboarded in the first two weeks
  • Engagement spike: 200+ additional onboarding coinciding with the IPL challenge launch
  • Activity increase: Average steps grew from 7,500/day in mid-April to 10,000/day at peak
  • Sustained change: Even after the formal program ended, the average steps remained above 8,500/day

The Takeaway: Small Steps, Giant Impact

This initiative demonstrated how a thoughtfully designed wellness program can transcend traditional corporate health initiatives by connecting personal well-being to social impact. The “Miles to Meals” campaign delivered:

  • Measurable health improvements with increased physical activity across the organization
  • Tangible social impact with nearly 97,000 meals provided to children in need
  • Strengthened workplace community across departmental lines
  • Sustainable behavior change extending beyond the program period

When personal well-being connects with purpose, ordinary steps create extraordinary impact. With employees walking for both their health and to feed children, the company achieved what traditional wellness programs often miss: genuine, sustained motivation driven by meaningful purpose.
